You love those buff switchbacks that take you to the top and those flowing berms on the way down. You've also hit those jarring brake bumps, splashed through muddy puddles, been thrashed by overgrown blackberry, and washed out on a blown-out, dusty corner.
Here's the reality: Trails don't maintain themselves.
Every year, Trail Volunteers — JUST LIKE YOU — donate over 20,000 hours of physical labor to keep our state's dirt from being reclaimed by nature. Without this massive, collective effort, our trail systems would slowly erode into overgrown brush, muddy ruts, or unrideable sand.

Shape the Trails
You Love to Ride.
No experience? No problem. Just show up, grab a tool, and help us shape the dirt—whether we're carving out fresh lines or tuning up your favorite local loop.
Evergreen hosts regular volunteer days across all ten chapters, and we always need more hands on deck. We supply the tools, the know-how, and the high-fives—you just bring the energy.
What to bring: Water, work gloves, your favorite snacks, and a sturdy pair of shoes.
Who to bring: A friend, your kids, or your trail dog. Everyone is welcome.
Get credit for your dirt: Need volunteer hours? Whether it's for school, an employer match program, or community service requirements, we've got you covered. We'll gladly sign off on any time you put in.

Looking for a project for your group instead of joining one of ours? We'll scope a sponsored volunteer day built around your team, troop, or personal trail wish list.

Eagle Scout & Youth Projects
We've hosted dozens of Eagle Scout service projects and youth group builds. Bring your troop — we'll bring a project plan, the tools, and a crew lead to sign off on the work.
Personal Passion Projects
Got a feature, reroute, or trail you've always wanted to build or fix? Tell us about it. If it fits our land-manager agreements, we'll help you make it happen — permitting, planning, and all.
03 / Trail School

Trail School.
Trail School is Evergreen's hands-on class in sustainable trail building — the vocabulary, technique, and stewardship judgment every crew relies on. No experience required, and no cost to attend.
We run it seasonally, spring through fall, across most of our ten chapters — so there's a session near you most of the year.
Finish Trail School and you're on the path to Trail Builder I and II, and eventually Crew Lead — trained and trusted to run your own volunteer day.

Clearing the way.
Washington's trails are managed under USFS and DNR agreements that require specific certifications to use chainsaws on public lands. Evergreen's Sawyer Program trains and certifies volunteer trail workers to safely remove wind-thrown trees — keeping trails open and rideable after storms. This is technical, hands-on work for folks who want to go beyond a shovel.
The program operates through all ten chapters, with regional sawyer crews who can be dispatched quickly when a trail is blocked. It's funded by member dues, donations, and the volunteers who show up with their own certifications and equipment.

Active Evergreen members with current Wilderness First Aid certification can apply for sawyer training. We provide the USFS certification pathway, gear standards, and mentored field experience.
