Sage Hills contains a network of multi-use trails meandering over rolling hills right on the edge of down-town Wenatchee. There are great views and incredible wild flower displays in the early season (April - June).

Most of the climbs are not particularly challenging, but can be sustained. If you go all the way to the top of Twin Peaks, be prepared for a hard-core climb.

The Sage Hills -proper rides average in the 12 mile range, but you can extend this ride with doubletrack (and sweet singletrack!) onto Horse Lake Mountain / Twin Peaks, for 20+ miles easily.

How to Find It

Starting from downtown Wenatchee (100 miles east of Monroe on US 2), you have four places to park:

  • 5th St. (turns into Number One Canyon Rd.) and Sage Hills Drive (Lester's Trail TH - southern terminus) - park in gravel pullout at intersection, room for 10 cars
  • Day Drive (a few blocks from the southern end - limited parking, gate open from 7:30am to 7:30pm) - called 'Streetside Overflow Parking' on the map
  • Horse Lake TH (northern terminus) - turn right at first light in Wenatchee and follow the road through residential area, down past orchards, up 3-mile dirt road)
  • Broadview (Maiden Lane - residential area)

If you park at 5th St (Lester TH) you can climb for almost an hour in Sage Hills proper then descend. If you park at Horselake you can still ascend initially for half an hour then descend back to your car or just ride around doing loops.

To get to the Lester trailhead from N Wenatchee Ave, head south until you reach 5th street. Then turn right onto 5th street, and after a little over 1 mile, park in the gravel pullout at the corner of what is now Number One Canyon Rd and Sage Hills Drive.  There is no parking on Sage Hills Drive itself but ride up the road (staying to the right) about 1/4 mile to reach the trailhead.

Typical Conditions

Singletrack is typically hardpack or loose mineral, narrow, very little organic on the tread. Open and flowing. Trail surface conditions are typically fast and non-technical, with occasional hard switchbacks and steep dips in places.
