This area takes you on singletrack along refreshing creeks, mountain ridgelines and alpine scree fields. The riding can be quite technical as most of the trails are old school hiking trails with challenging rock gardens, steep grade and tight switchbacks thrown in for good measure. It rewards you, however, with breathbaking views of the Stuart range, wildflowers in spring and an incredible outdoors experience overall.

The trails are typically dry. Pine trees in the lower elevation areas provide some shade, and water is available in the creeks. There are a number of creek crossings that can be made without much effort on the bike.

Northwest Forest Pass required at trailhead parking lots.

How to Find It

Northwest Forest Pass required at trailhead parking lot (or $5 fee which can be paid at parking area in an envelope).

  • From Hwy 970, take Teanaway Rd west (travel 7.3 mi)
  • Continue straight on N Fork Teanaway Rd just after the road bends north after Teanaway Mercantile (travel 5.8 mi)
  • Bear right onto NFD Rd 9737 (travel 1.3 mi)
  • Bear right onto NFD Rd 9703 (travel 2.5 mi)
  • Trailhead parking area is on the right (47.36645, -120.80266). There is a pit toilet here. Trailhead itself is across the road to the north.

Note that the last two NFD roads are gravel, then dirt.  The gravel road is smooth and low-car friendly.  The dirt road has some potholes and rough spots, but still drivable with a low-slung car.

Typical Conditions

The trail is typically dry. Pine trees provide some shade and water is available in the creek.  There are a number of creek crossings that can be made without much effort on the bike.

Local Points of Interest

Cle Elum is nearest city. The Teanaway Mercantile which you pass on Teanaway Rd is a small store with some food and drink.
