This ride, including the alternatives, was used in the 2015 Methow-Evergreen Singletrack Solstice Ride, our annual "club" ride and fundraiser.
The point-to-point ride starts at the Poplar Flat Campground on the Twisp River Road, climbs briefly (1/4 mile) to the Twisp River Trail and then turns right (Southeast) to the Buttermilk Snowpark (10 miles). Then follow Forest Service Roads to the Twisp River Road (paved). Turn right on the Twisp River Road and go about XX miles to Bridge Creek (XX miles) Road (gravel, on left) and follow XX mile to Thompson Ridge Road. Follow this road XX miles and look for a closed road on the right, closed with earthen "tank traps". Follow this road and trail 2.1 miles and reconnect with Thompson Ridge Road. Follow the road another 0.5 miles to Goshawk/Woodpecker Trail (on right); you are now on the Sun Mountain Trail System. Use the posted map, Green Trails Map Sun Mountain #83S or Amazing Maps West Methow Trails for details on traversing this area and completing the ride to Winthrop.
How to Find It
In Twisp, Washington, find the intersection of State Highway 20 and the Twisp River Road. Drive West on the Twisp River Road about 20 miles to the Poplar Flats Campground. The ride starts on a double track road located on the right (north) side of the Twisp River Road, just before the Poplar Flats Campground. Ride this road about 1/4 mile to the Twisp River Trail.
Typical Conditions
Dry conditions prevail May - November. Several stream crossing on the Twisp River Trail experience high flows during early spring, depending on snowmelt.
Trails are generally buff and maintained by Evergreen, Backcountry Horsemen, and other user groups.
Local Points of Interest
During hot weather, cool off in the Twisp River, at the Bridge near War Creek Campground or the Junction with Twisp River Road. You can also detour to the Patterson Lake Trail and/or the launch of the Paterson Lake Road for a swim.

Nearly all trail segments are on National Forest Service lands, wuth the exception of some trails at Sun Mountain the trails between Sun Mountain and Winthrop.

The point-to-point ride starts at the Poplar Flat Campground on the Twisp River Road, climbs briefly (1/4 mile) to the Twisp River Trail and then turns right (Southeast) to the Buttermilk Snowpark (10 miles). Then follow Forest Service Roads 1.5 miles east to the Twisp River Road (paved). Turn right on the Twisp River Road and go about 2.6 miles to Bridge Creek Road on left. Follow Bridge Creek Road 0.1 miles to Thompson Ridge Road (#4410). Follow this road 2.2 miles and look for a closed road on the right (blocked with earthen "tank traps"). Follow this old road and trail 2.1 miles and reconnect with Thompson Ridge Road. Follow the road another 0.5 miles to Goshawk/Woodpecker Trail (on right); you are now on the Sun Mountain Trail System.
