Mountain bikers in the Methow Valley have long worked to establish a plan for bike trails at Loup Loup’s North Summit and the surrounding area. In 2022, that dream finally became reality when Evergreen’s Methow Chapter and USFS Methow Valley Ranger District (MVRD) reached an agreement for new trail development. The plan contains over 40 miles of new construction and 20 miles of improvements to both multi-use and mountain bike-specific trails.

In the fall of 2022, Evergreen broke ground with an update to the Telemark trail to allow two-way travel and meet modern trail sustainability guidelines. Subsequently an all new descending trail, Fozzie Bear Inventions, was constructed from the summit of Bear Mountain down to the top of the existing Bear Mountain #422 Forest ServiceTrail. With strong community and volunteer support, the North Summit trail system had its first full build season in 2023, completing Telemark and Fozzie Bear as well as an all-new descending trail, Ursus. In 2024, improvements were made to Ursus, a new climbing access trail, Bear With Me was constructed, and a green beginner loop, Buckaroo, was built. Finally, an all new 2.7 mile descending trail, Oso Peligroso, was completed that fully utilizes the unique rock formations of the area. We have much to look forward to as we continue to build out the North Summit system to provide new and exciting trail experiences in a beautiful landscape to all user groups.
